Story
https://foha.org/pet/walter2025/ ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Hi, I’m Mr. Walter, a sweet, gentle old soul with a heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging. I may be a senior, but don’t let my age fool you, I’ve still got a pep in my step and a nose that loves to sniff every blade of grass. I’m the kind of guy who takes life one cozy cuddle at a time. I’m not into toys much, but I’ll chase a tennis ball once, just to be polite, then mosey off to find a good spot to lounge. What I lack in fetch skills, I make up for in affection, calm companionship, and a whole lot of happy tail wags. I’m house-trained, polite, and easy to love. I don’t guard my food, I’m not touch-sensitive, and I’ll gladly accept pets and scratches all day long. And yes, I’m a bit of a counter surfer, but hey, who isn’t tempted by a sandwich left unattended? HOW AM I WITH DOGS: I do well with other polite pups. I enjoy calm canine companions but would be perfectly content as your one and only, too. HOW AM I WITH CATS: No cats for me, please! HOW AM I WITH KIDS: I have spent time in short term foster with a child over 10 and did great!  I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS: I’m still learning, but I’m very food-motivated, especially if it’s jerky, and I love bonding through training. MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: I’m housetrained and doing well with crate training. Mostly, I just want a soft bed nearby so I can keep you company. THINGS I LIKE: Cuddles, pets, sniffing around the yard, jerky treats, leisurely strolls, and just hanging out with my people. THINGS I DISLIKE: Not much! I’m pretty easygoing, but I may get startled by loud noises or sudden movements. I bounce back quickly with some gentle reassurance. FOHA ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCESS: https://foha.org/pet-adoption/adoption-policies/  ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical procedures as recommended by our vet.

Meet Ellie, a super good girl with the cutest scruffy muzzle! She loves people, other dogs and, while she grew up in a household with a toddler, she is cautious at first with the little ones.  Once she figures them out, they get kisses, too! She has a wiggly waggly butt for everyone she meets. Ellie really enjoys interacting with other dogs and would do great in a household with another dog to play with as she is active and energetic. She is house trained, crate trained, knows basic commands (sit, come), walks great on leash, and at 40 pounds, she is the perfect size--not too big, not too small. Ellie will come with her crate, food, leashes, the works! Come meet this sweet, playful girl, you won’t regret it &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143Accuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org May 15, 2025, 8:07 pm

Story
Introducing, Jayde! Jayde is about 3 years old and 25 lbs. Sadly, her owner was elderly and had several dogs that she couldn’t properly care for. Jayne can be fearful in new situations due to the lack of socialization for most of her life. Knowing that Jayde would need time to decompress we sent her to an amazing foster home that would spoil her and help her learn that people aren’t scary. Her fosters said: “Sugar and spice and everything nice describes Jayde perfectly. She is as sweet as can be although a bit shy at first. She doesn’t have a mean or aggressive bone in her body. She loves to go for walks and be outside in her yard. She is crate trained but also makes a wonderful bed companion for those inclined to have their new BFF close by during the night. Jayde loves to play with other dogs and she would likely do best with a youngish sibling who likes to play. She is potty trained, people friendly and not overly vocal. Jayde is looking for that special person who has a warm heart and the patience to let her get comfortable in her new home. This girl is a sweetheart and is ready for her next excellent adventure.” Interested in learning more about Jayde? Apply at www.novapetsalive.org/adopt. Jayde is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, was given dewormer and monthly preventatives, and is microchipped.

Story
Meet Poppy! This gorgeous Beagle mix puppy was found abandoned on the side of a highway and brought to a local shelter. Sadly, because she was found in a different county, the shelter turned her away. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan who was there, turning in a chipped cat, saw what happened and stepped in. She took Poppy home from the original finder and contacted Worthy Dog Rescue for help. Because of her quick thinking and kindness, Poppy now has a safe, nurturing foster home and will soon have a loving family of her own. At just 11 weeks old, Poppy is already proving what a special pup she is. She’s crate trained and has had no accidents in her crate, even holding it overnight, which is impressive for her age. She actually likes her crate and often goes in on her own to nap. She's also making great progress with house training. While she’ll go to the door when she needs to be let out, she’s still a puppy and needs supervision to avoid accidents. Poppy has playful puppy energy but shows signs of being a medium-energy dog overall. She loves exploring the yard, enjoys walks, and is getting used to the leash. Sometimes she prances along happily, and other times she’s all nose, fascinated by every new smell. With more practice, her leash skills will only improve. Social, affectionate, and confident, Poppy adores other dogs, kids, and new people. She’s still working through typical puppy behaviors like mouthing, but her foster mom is helping her learn with gentle corrections. She’s incredibly sweet, loves to be cuddled like a baby, and is just a joy to have around. Poppy recently stayed with a family that has kids, dogs, and cats, and she had a blast. She will make an excellent family dog and would love some playmates in her new home. FOSTER MOM UPDATE “ Poppy is such a sweet girl! She’s very smart, and she was super easy when she was here. She fit right into my pack. Pj (my newest smaller pup, 50lbs) and Poppy became friends immediately. Poppy was very interested in my cats, but my cats are used to foster puppies, so they don’t really mind a dog sniffing them all over. Poppy would even lick/nibble their ears, and my cats just stood there and let her. None of my cats run away, so I have no idea if she would chase them. She did great in her crate. Never had an accident.  We took Poppy to an outdoor event on Sunday and people asked if I had drugged her She slept almost the entire time. (It was hot). She did have a chance to interact with a couple of the large dogs and was trying to initiate play, but they mostly ignored her. I let her drag the leash around, and when I called he,r she came right away! She's a smart girl. For a puppy, I felt like she was great! Not super high energy and all around easy. Fit in with my crew, including kids, seamlessly. We enjoyed having her.&#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143" *************** While she clearly looks like a Beagle, our vet believes she’s a mix and estimates she’ll be over 40 lbs when fully grown. We’re looking for a fun, active family with a flexible schedule who is ready for puppy mode! A home with another social, playful pup would be a great bonus for Poppy as she thrives with canine companionship. If you’re looking for a loving, curious, and playful pup to join your pack, Poppy may be a great fit. She  will be coming to the DC metro area in late June. Apply today! ***Note: Poppy is still too young to be spayed, but having her spayed at the appropriate age will be required as part of her adoption terms***   BREED ESTIMATE: Beagle Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  17 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~  11- 12 weeks old COAT TYPE: Medium-length scruffy coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/microchipped - NOT SPAYED LOCATION: Indian Land, SC   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Annie!  This beautiful girl was rescued as a stray along with her two puppies after showing up at a Good Samaritan’s home. The trio was brought to a local shelter, where her pups were quickly taken in by a partner rescue and have already found their forever homes. Now, it’s Annie’s turn for a happy ending! Annie has been settling into her North Carolina foster home for the past couple of weeks, living with two older dogs and frequently interacting with visiting grandkids. She’s a sweet, social, and well-adjusted pup; comfortable in a pack but confident enough to thrive as a solo dog, too. She respects the older dogs in the home but still loves to play, and her foster mom has been arranging regular playdates with a neighbor’s dog, which Annie adores. She’s an enthusiastic, active player who would do best with another playful pup, and while she can be vocal during play, she’s otherwise a quiet houseguest. We checked in with her foster mom, Cindy, for an update: “Annie is such a sweet soul and loves everyone, both people and dogs. She follows us around the house and is a great companion. She loves attention and will happily curl up on the couch with you or roll over for belly rubs. She’s calm inside unless there’s another dog to play with, and she settles in beautifully when it’s time to rest. She’s young but not hyper, doesn’t jump on guests, and while she may bark initially, she’s never aggressive. She just needs a minute to adjust, and then she’s rolling on her back to ask for belly rubs. Annie had a few accidents when she first arrived, but is now fully house-trained. She sleeps soundly through the night on a dog bed next to my mom, and we can leave her uncrated at night with the other dogs without any issues. She is crate-trained, and we do use the crate when we leave the house. She’s still a young pup who might get into mischief! We’ve been working on leash skills using an Easy Walk harness, and she’s getting better every day. She only vocalizes when she spots someone or another dog she wants to meet. Other than that, she rarely barks and doesn’t even join in when my dogs bark! Annie is around 30 lbs and is a little on the slim side, so we’re feeding her extra to help her fill out. We’re not entirely sure of her breed; she’s petite with long legs, a small face, and a white-tipped tail—maybe a little Beagle in there? She’s a perfect size and loves sunning on the deck, playing fetch and tug, and most of all, cuddling.” Ideal Home: Annie would thrive in an active home with owners who enjoy including their pup in daily life, whether that’s hiking, playing fetch in the backyard, or sun lounging on the deck. She’d love a canine playmate or regular playdates with dog friends. She’s the full package: affectionate, playful, house-trained, and a great companion. Ready to meet your new best friend? Annie is waiting! Apply today! BREED ESTIMATE: Beagle Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  31 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 1.5 years old COAT TYPE: Short brindle coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Arlington, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Rex aka Liberty is the perfect pup balance of chill and playful. when he is settled. He loves sitting in his bed by the fireplace relaxing in the evening or curled up in a blanket next to the desk while his human is working. Rex also loves other playful, friendly dogs and enjoys lots of play wrestling and doggy kisses. Rex also loves belly rubs and he is a big snuggle bug who will show you his appreciation of your pets with sweet kisses and nuzzles. Rex is also blind and lived most of his life under a porch until he came to PetConnect. He is resilient and, somehow, still full of Joy. Rex has always been blind, and he manages beautifully. He learns new environments quickly, has radar-like hearing, and relies on his incredibly impressive sniiffer (nose). Rex's fosters report that his blindness is basically a non-issue, but we will be happy to provide support and resources for living with a blind dog to his adopter. Even though he has issues seeing, he does not require medications for his eyes. Since Rex is blind, he tends to grr or whine to let you know he is there. This happens around stairs, doors, and when he falls asleep, but as he gets more comfortable and confident, this goes away. He responds well to positive reinforcement and gentle patience and has already made much progress. Rex is so deserving of a safe, stable and loving new home. In return, He will provide so much love and loyalty that you will wonder how your ever lived without him. To learn more about Rex, email bhutcherson@petconnectrescue.org

Meet Lucky Freedom – the name says it all! This special boy is the perfect mix of luck and freedom—and he’s finally getting to enjoy both. For the first three years of his life, Lucky lived under a porch with his brother. Understandably, the big wide world felt overwhelming at first—but this sweet, gentle boy has come such a long way. Thanks to the love and guidance of his foster family (and some amazing doggy role models), Lucky has made incredible progress. He now loves going on leash walks with the family and is getting more comfortable with new sights and sounds every day. He takes his cues from other dogs and enjoys being part of a pack, but his confidence is growing steadily—and he’s ready for his next step: a home of his own. If you believe in second chances and have room in your heart for a sweet, soulful pup, Lucky Freedom may be your perfect match. Interested in learning more? Story
Spectrum is the ultimate cuddle buddy! This sweet boy loves nothing more than being with his humans, even if it means getting comfy in the most awkward positions on your lap. In lieu of your lap, he also loves being tucked under a blanket to stay cozy. He's a quick learner, too - he's been practicing his crate-training and he's almost fully housebroken. Plus, he's a social butterfly who gets along great with dogs of all ages, from puppies to seniors. If you're looking for a loyal companion to snuggle up with, this good boy might be the perfect match for you! Adoption Day: June 21st at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–11:00 AM, an approved adopter must be present to adopt. Some pups may stick around until 11:00 AM for the public event—check our Facebook page closer to the date to see if this pup will be attending the extra fun!  ##2370081##

Story
Meet Sandy Rooney! Sandy is a very smart, playful, and cuddly beagle and hound mix! At only 3 months old, she knows “sit”, “off”, sleeps up to 9 hours overnight in her crate, and is probably 90% potty trained. She is very food motivated and would probably learn anything for the promise of a treat or some salmon. Her current human foster sister is 3.5 years old and as soon as her toddler foster sister tells Sandy Rooney “Off”, Sandy Rooney lets go of whatever toy she may have or stops jumping up on her human foster sister. She learned this after just a few times of being told. Sandy Rooney is very good about napping in her crate and sleeping through the night. Between Sandy Rooney and her sister/littermate and current co-foster pup Sandra Vielma, Sandy Rooney is usually a bit more vocal about being ready to come out of the crate, but still is amazing in it for her age! As beagles and hounds usually do, she howls when she is scared, in a new situation, or is being fast approached by other kids. However, she finds comfort in looking to her humans for guidance after being initially startled and gets along with humans of all ages—2 years old to 74 years old! Sandy Rooney is currently being fostered with her littermate sister “Sandra Vielma” and two 2.5 years old kitties. She is currently afraid of the kitties but is becoming a bit more bold and comfortable with them as time goes on. It is unclear how well she would do living with cats long-term, but with guidance of another older dog, she might fair better. She is afraid of other dogs at first (even those half her size!) but after proper introductions and with encouragement, she is fine. Sandy Rooney travels very well! She came alongside her foster family for a 2 hour ride and slept or snuggled in laps the whole time. She pooped and peed when stopped, then rode another 1.5 hours just as easily as the first 2! Adoption Day: June 21st at PetSmart Tysons Corner from 10:00–11:00 AM —  an approved adopter must be present to adopt. Some pups may stick around until 12:00 PM for the public event—check our Facebook page closer to the date to see if this pup will be attending the extra fun! Sandy is a sweet, gentle, loving dog. She is a cuddler. Like other dogs, Sandy is smart and loves chasing balls.  ##2370077##
