Story
This is Peanut. Peanut is a neutered male Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix, he weighs approximately 10 pounds, up to date with his shots and he is about a year old. He is about 50% house trained. He knows to go potty outside, he's just not sure how to ask to go outside yet, so he will need a little patience and training. Peanut had a family who had an autistic son. As the son got older, it wasn't working out to have a dog. So, peanut was dropped off at the shelter. Peanut is a very affectionate little guy. He loves to be around people getting pets and love. Peanut does well with other dogs and he loves to play. He's not crazy about pit bull breeds, but he does great with all other breeds. I don't think Peanut has ever been around cats, but I think he would do well with them. Peanut would also do well as an only dog. As far as children, he would do best around older kids (8 years & older)Peanut loves long walks, hiking and he just learned how to swim this week! He LOVES swimming now. He loves to eat, he is very food motivated which makes it easy to train him. If you think Peanut would be a good fit for you, fill out the application form on Fancy Cat's Website and we will contact you for a meet and greet. Peanut can't wait to meet you.  __________________________________________________ This dog's adoption fee is $525. Story
https://foha.org/pet/alpupchino2025/ ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Hi, I’m Al Pupicino! Don’t let the name fool you — I’m not just about good looks and charm (though I have plenty of both). I’m a high-energy pup with a zest for life, lots of curiosity, and a serious love of snuggles. I sleep well through the night, enjoy being held (just not like a baby, thanks), and I’m always up for some couch cuddles after a day of exploring. As a young dog, I’ve still got a few things to learn — like this whole house-training thing — but I’m a quick study and eager to please. I walk well on a leash, love my meals, and have shown interest in cats without any aggression. I’m playful, a bit silly, and all heart. HOW AM I WITH DOGS: Introductions to other dogs should be done thoughtfully, as I’m still maturing. HOW AM I WITH CATS: Curious but non-aggressive — a cat-savvy home may work! HOW AM I WITH KIDS: Not assessed yet, but due to my energy and ongoing training needs, a home with older kids or adults only may be best for now. I KNOW THE FOLLOWING COMMANDS: Still learning the basics, but I walk well on leash and am eager to learn more. MY HOUSEBREAKING AND/OR CRATING: I am working on this! THINGS I LIKE: Snuggling, food, leash walks, being carried like a football, and being the center of attention. THINGS I DISLIKE: Still discovering the world, so I’m taking it all in! Nothing major noted yet. FOHA ADOPTION POLICIES AND PROCESS: https://foha.org/pet-adoption/adoption-policies/ ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: Spay/neuter, vaccines (rabies, distemper & Bordetella), 1-month access to Petcademy for training and behavior support, slip lead leash, 1 bag starter food, 1 month flea/tick & heartworm preventatives, diagnostic testing, and additional medical procedures as recommended by our vet.

Story
Sidney came to AFH from one of our rescue partners.  They were called by a Sheriff's Department in Florida to assist with a hoarding case involving '50 to 100' Chihuahuas.  When they arrived, there were over 200!  They were all living in a filthy mobile home surrounded by trash and feces. The trailer had no running water or electricity.  Our rescue partner said 'It was, honestly, one of the worst properties I've been on and I have been on some BAD ones.'  Thanks to our wonderful fosters we were able to rescue 8 dogs. Sidney was pregnant when she arrived to AFH. She has since had an emergency c-section on 10/30/24. Only one puppy was viable, but he is doing very well.  She is still wary of people, but has made great strides.   Sidney is working on housetraining, and is crate trained, and leash trained. Sidney's WISDOM PANEL results:  37% Chihuahua, 3% Toy Fox Terrier, 2% Miniature Pincher, 17% Chow Chow, 4% Siberian Husky, 3% Alaskan Malamute, 2% Kai Ken, 2% Chinese Shar-Pei, 7% Papillon,3% Shih-Tzu, 3% Toy Poodle, 7% German Shepherd Dog, 2% Collie, 4% American Pit Bull Terrier, 3% American Cocker Spaniel, 1% Labrador RetrieverAccuracy is not guaranteed; however, information provided is accurate to the best of our knowledge.  For more information on the pet, please send an email to info@aforeverhome.org March 16, 2025, 8:40 pm

Story
Meet Wyn! Wyn is one of three Chihuahuas we rescued after their elderly owner passed away. After their owner’s death, the dogs were taken in by the adult children, but unfortunately, they were kept penned outside with little care or attention. Thankfully, a groomer who had been a friend of the owner learned of their situation and stepped in. She took all three pups into her care until rescue could be found. These dogs are incredibly lucky someone advocated for them—because of her actions, Wyn now has a chance at the love and life he deserves. When Wyn first arrived, he was understandably timid and unsure in his new foster home. It’s clear he didn’t have much exposure to the outside world, and he needs time to acclimate to new environments. He’s currently living with another dog and two cats in his foster home and has done well as part of a pack, though he mostly has eyes for his foster mom. He follows her everywhere and is her little shadow. He’s slowly warming up to his foster dad, but needs more time to feel comfortable around men. Wyn is crate-trained and housetrained, and he hasn’t had any accidents in his foster home. He has a moderate energy level and needs daily walks and playtime. While he can be barky at other dogs, his leash skills are improving with practice. He likes to chase balls but also settles nicely indoors. He’s very cuddly and loves to curl up on your lap during TV time. He’ll alert you when company arrives, but isn’t overly vocal. Wyn’s foster mom describes him as very sweet and connected to his person. He would do great with a single owner or a couple. We haven’t seen him around kids, but we believe a calmer home environment would suit him best. He’ll do fine as an only dog but could also thrive as part of a small, well-matched pack. Updates to follow as he settles in. Apply today! Meet Gage. Gage is one of three Chihuahuas we rescued after their elderly owner passed away. After their owner’s death, the dogs were taken in by the adult children, but unfortunately, they were kept penned outside with little care or attention. Thankfully, a groomer who had been a friend of the owner learned of their situation and stepped in. She took all three pups into her care until rescue could be found. These dogs are incredibly lucky someone advocated for them. Because of her actions, Gage has a chance at the love and life he deserves. When Gage first arrived, he was understandably timid and unsure in his new foster home. It’s clear he didn’t have much exposure to the outside world, and his circumstances only worsened after being isolated in a yard. He’s currently living with three other dogs and multiple cats in his foster home and has done well being part of a pack. We checked in with his foster mom, Jenn, to see how he’s settling in.   FOSTER MOM Q&A How is he doing with your pack? Gage is used to being around other dogs and is totally solid with my cats. While I think he could be okay as an only dog, he seems more confident with a dog buddy or as part of a pack. He warmed up to me and my mom right away. Men make him a bit nervous at first, but with time, he does warm up. Initially, he was terrified of my dad and older son, but now he’ll sit on the couch with my son and is more comfortable with my dad. Energy level?  Gage has a moderate energy level. He enjoys having access to a fenced yard, but also does fine on a leash. About a week after he arrived, he started playing with toys, so his playful side is definitely emerging. Is he housetrained/crate trained? Yes, Gage is housetrained and is crated when I leave the house. I don’t leave my dogs alone with fosters unsupervised as a rule, but he does fine in the crate. He doesn’t go in on his own, so he usually needs a little encouragement. At night, he has free range of the house and chooses to sleep wherever my dogs do, sometimes in my room, sometimes in the living room. I don’t think he’d need to be crated long-term as long as his environment is safe. What’s he like—confident, shy, cuddly, independent?  Gage was initially very head shy and would back away when touched, but that improved significantly after the first week. He’s still timid and follows the lead of my other dogs, but he’s making progress every day. He’s not aggressive, just nervous and in need of time and space to decompress and trust. He’s started following me around like a little shadow, and he now jumps up in the chair with me, throws his whole body against mine, licks my face, and begs for belly rubs. It’s so rewarding to see his personality coming out. Best home environment? He does startle easily and gets overwhelmed when things are loud or chaotic, so a quiet, calm home would be best for him. I would say no young kids or busy, urban settings. He’d do well with another dog or two to keep him company and help him feel secure. Leash skills? Gage walks on a martingale collar and does well overall, but he gets nervous in very busy environments. Because he tends to back up when scared, I recommend a martingale collar and/or harness to ensure he’s secure on walks. ******** Gage is doing wonderfully and is a fantastic little guy. He just needs a little patience and a calm home environment, and he’s going to blossom into a devoted, snuggly companion.  Apply today to learn more!   BREED ESTIMATE: Chi Mix (with Basset or Doxen) GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  17 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 2 to 3 years old COAT TYPE: Short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION:  Centreville, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Meet Nya. Nya is one of three Chihuahuas we rescued after their elderly owner passed away. After their owner's death, the dogs were taken in by the adult children, but sadly, they were kept penned outside with little care or attention. Thankfully, a compassionate groomer who had been a friend of the owner stepped in. She took all three pups into her care until rescue could be arranged. Because of her actions, Nya has a chance at the love and life she deserves. When Nya first arrived, she was understandably timid and unsure in her new foster home. It was clear she hadn't had much exposure to the outside world. She’s currently living with a foster mom and dad, and two other dogs and has done well as part of a pack. Nya has excellent house manners and is very laid-back. She’s house-trained, not destructive, and has earned free roam privileges in her foster home. She has an adorable personality and a love for cozy comforts. Nya is a true blanket burrower and loves to snuggle, whether it’s under the covers or curled up with her humans or pup buddies. We checked in with her foster mom, Christi, to hear how she’s settling in. Nya is adjusting more every day, growing in confidence, and starting to show her sweet, affectionate nature.   FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 6/8/25 Nya has been w us a week now. She has settled in quite well. She is the sweetest little girl.  She has chosen me as her person, but she will also mix things up and choose Dan to cuddle up next to or sleep with through the night.   She is 100% engaged with us. Loves to be where we are and take advantage of a lap to cuddle in.  Nya will accept and enjoys pets from my husband Dan and is warming up nicely to our 21 year old son.   We have let her take her time in experiencing the three of us to earn her trust.   We are an active household- in that we have projects and house and yard work.   I think we are more active than she was ever been accustomed to. She is a little cautious as we move about quickly or something accidentally makes a loud noise ( like pots or pans bang in the kitchen).  She may make a quick retreat under the dining table to assess the situation if something catches her by surprise.  She’s quickly realizes she is safe and rejoins us almost immediately.  Which is 100% on par w all of our foster pups over the years.   She used to bark at my 20-something son when he would come up from the basement man cave.  I think the sudden door opening scared her. But she’s fine now. She sleeps in the office under my desk while I work through the day.  She loves to cuddle on the couch when we are catching up after the day or watching TV.  Drum roll … Nya is doing fabulously on walks, which was brand new to her!  We walk two times a day with our two little dogs. Not long walks (because our dogs are little) but 20 mins of nice exercise and enrichment.  Knowing she never has been on a lead in a walking situation, I got her a sturdy harness.   Her first two days w us, I put her harness on and lead and offered to bring her out w our dogs. She followed our dogs down the drive way and made it two house before she decided she was a bit afraid. I didn’t push it. I brought her back home.  But on day 3, she made it the whole 20 min walk. She was cautious, but she did it.  It was really good for her.   Now at day 8, little miss Nya gladly goes for her walks.  Enjoys all the enrichment.  She is not reactive.  We had an instance where a large rambunctious dog on the other side of the street was barking excitedly. It did worry her, so I just picked her up (so she felt safe) and waited for the other dog to be led off.  She quickly reset and we were on our happy way. I walk her with our 13 lb little scruffy Terrier Stella.  Nya and Stella do very well together and share a consistent walking pace. I really have not worked in any training yet because I just want her to know the complete joy of walks.  But, I will say she does NOT tug on walks. Nya has been respectful of our senior scruffy L.G. who is a little 12 lb low rider. The dogs do well w each other.  Our pups have taught her the joys of charging birds and squirrels at the bird feeder. When they run out there she does too.   Very cute.   Our dogs don’t really play with each other but Nya isn’t interested in play. Aside from chasing birds and squirrels in a pack setting, she’s pretty laidback. She would do fine as a single dog or with a confident companion.   I don’t think she’s a good fit for smalll children, but kiddos who understand she needs time to trust and settle, would be ok.   Nya is resilient and is doing so well.  Each day brings new joy for her.   She is an amazing, small-sized, easy to manage companion. ************* Nya’s journey from outdoor neglect to cuddlebug is a testament to how resilient and loving dogs can be when given a second chance. She’s looking for a calm, loving home where she can continue to blossom and be someone’s loyal companion. Meet Kitty and Red! This bonded pair of inkblot gremlins have been stealing hearts at Miri's since they arrived. Kitty and Red were flown to us by Pilots N Paws after being dumped at a shelter in North Carolina. They arrived confused and scared but quickly settled into their foster home once they realized they were safe, loved, and together. Kitty warms up to people quickly. She loves to sit with her humans and listen to them talk to her, especially when they're eating. Her favorite curl up spot is on the back of couch, though she needs a helping hand to get up there. She's a sweet, chatty girl who has no problem asking for what she wants - especially food! Red takes a long time to get used to new people and likes to keep his circle small, but once you're in, you're in. Now that he's decided his foster mom and dad are worthy, he climbs right into their laps, rolls onto his back, and asks for belly rubs. He's still not crazy about other humans, so he'd do best with a family that's home most of the time and doesn't have too many visitors. He may react negatively when approached by people he doesn't know well, so he will need slow and patient introductions to the people who will be in his life. Kitty and Red are looking for a forever home with humans that love to snuggle with them and who can provide structure and routine. Neither inkblot is leash-trained so thye'll need a fenced-in yard to explore. Their ideal home is child-free, generally quiet and calm, and full of love and patience. They're making progress on housetraining and are good about using pee pads when they can't make it outside in time. Kitty and Red have so much love to give! They need someone who will be patient with Red while he takes his time to warm up - in return, they will bring so much love, laughter, and absolute adorableness into your home. Kitty and Red are approximately 14 years old. Kitty is about 6 lbs and Red is about 5 lbs. Fostered in Waynesboro, PA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Hi, I’m Christopher – an 8-year-old, 17-pound, chi/retriever mix with a light brown face, white legs, and a heart that’s slowly but surely learning how good the world can be. My buddy, Drax, and I were part of a big rescue  — almost 80 dogs and cats saved from a hoarding situation that wasn’t safe for any of us. I’m lucky to have Drax to pal around with. He's also up for adoption with our new friends at AHOTO. Truth is, I love attention. I don’t mind being picked up or held at all — it actually feels kind of nice knowing someone cares. I get along well with other dogs and have never shown any aggression toward anyone. I do bark at strangers when they approach — hey, I’m part Chihuahua! But give me a moment, and I settle down quickly. I just need a second to feel things out. Exciting news: I just started leash training and I'm going on walks this week! It’s a whole new adventure, and I’m getting the hang of it with every step. I’m curious, gentle, and ready to keep growing with someone who understands that second chances can lead to the best kinds of stories. ##2422886##

Story
Hi there, I’m Drax!I’m a 4-year-old chi/feist x with a sharp mind, a soft heart, and a very handsome tri-color coat (if I do say so myself). I weigh about 30 lbs, and I stand a little taller than my best buddy, Christopher (also available for adoption). He and I were part of a very large group (77 to be exact!!) of dogs and cats that were rescued from a hoarding situation. Despite all of that, I’ve always been okay with people. From day one, I’ve let folks pet me and handle me — which I think says a lot about my gentle nature and willingness to trust. Christopher and I are a lot alike: calm, observant, and quietly affectionate. I’m not the type to bounce off the walls (though I do appreciate a good zoomie every now and then!). Instead, I like to take in the world at my own pace, especially with a friend close by. If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key companion with a resilient spirit and kind eyes, I might just be your guy. ##2422878##
