IF YOU ARE VIEWING THIS LISTING ON PETFINDER OR ADOPT-A-PET, please visit: Caninesandkittiesrescue.org to access adoption requirements, more information and pictures. Meet Cheeto -- Cheeto is about 4.5 months old and weighs about 12 lbs. The shelter said Cheeto is a Lab/Doxie mix, but that is just a guess:) Cheeto is a happy boy who loves to play and explore. Cheeto loves playing with the other puppy in his foster home. Once Cheeto has had his playtime he too enjoys a good cuddle with his foster mom or dad. Cheeto is doing great on his house and crate training. Since Cheeto is a puppy, he will need an adopter who is at home a good portion of the day each day to continue training - No exceptions! Cheeto is up to date on his vaccines, he is microchipped and he is neutered. The adoption fee for this dog is $400, which helps with the cost of routine vet care. This fee DOES NOT INCLUDE spay/neuter if the pup is not already spayed/neutered. If the animal you are adopting is not already spayed/neutered, you will be required to sign a contract legally obligating you to have the animal altered. A $100.00 fee will be returned to the adopter once the animal has been sterilized. We will provide information on this process during the approval process. ***You must be at least 25 years of age to adopt from CKRescue*** ***Note that puppy adoption fees most often help generate revenue that goes towards older, special needs animals that need our help. Surgeries, heartworm treatment, boarding costs and/or all things that often result in adoptable dogs and cats being left behind to be euthanized. So, adopting a puppy saves not just one life, but many! ***Please note that our first step in approving adoption applicants is to complete a vet check. Vetting of current and past pets is very important to us, thus we will be speaking with the vet(s) listed on your application to ensure that your current and previous pet(s) are kept up to date on vaccines (including rabies), spayed or neutered, maintained on appropriate monthly preventatives and examined annually by your vet.*** Our organization cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and/or the general appearance of the animal. **Please visit www.caninesandkittiesrescue.org to complete our non-binding application.**

Arlos is a shy and timid boy who will need time to warm up to new people. Arlo will require another young and confident dog in his forever home. Arlo enjoys running around the backyard chasing a tennis ball or just laying in the sun. Arlo will need an adopter who can work with him on building his confidence. Arlo is not in a foster home with children, but we feel he would do ok with dog savvy children who are 8 years and up. Story
Meet Peyton! Peyton was part of an abandoned family of pups we rescued this winter. She and her mate, Woody, had been surviving outside in the bitter cold when we found them. Peyton was very pregnant and in need of immediate help. Thankfully, we got them to safety just in time for her to deliver her puppies in a warm, loving foster home. Now that her pups are weaned and she’s been spayed, Peyton is officially retired from motherhood and ready to begin her next chapter, finding a forever home of her own. Peyton has been in her local foster home for about 6 weeks now, living with her foster parents and two small dogs. She integrated easily into the pack and enjoys the company of other pups. She’s a young, playful girl who would love to have a canine companion in her new home to keep her company and share in her adventures. Kristin, her foster mom, describes Peyton as having a great personality. She can be a little shy at first, but with just a little attention, she settles in quickly and builds trust. She’s a fun little low rider who enjoys playing fetch and loves her toys. She's housetrained, crate-trained, but has earned free-roam privileges in her foster home. Peyton has a moderate energy level. She's happy romping around with her foster siblings but also enjoys cuddling up on the couch for some downtime. She’s very enthusiastic about giving kisses, and Kristin is working with her on moderation. Peyton has started going on regular leash walks and seems to really enjoy them. She loves the outdoors and greets new people and dogs with ease.   FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 5/4/25 "Peyton is super sweet, loves to cuddle, and watches out our front window, taking everything in. She’s a good eater and sleeps soundly through the night. She loves to give kisses, sometimes too much, so we are working on that.  She's been great with our pack, and we've even had some playdates with neighborhood dogs. She would do best with a dog buddy who will play with her. She loves to run around and explore the yard with the other dogs.  Petydon has done great with house training, no accidents at all, and enjoys her walks too. I have not noticed fear of traffic or cars that have gone by us while walking. She is more curious about people and wildlife. Otherwise, she is a pretty confident walker." ********* Peyton is a lovely little dog with goodwill toward everyone she meets. She’ll make a wonderful, affectionate companion, and a perfect pup buddy, too.  Apply today! Story
Meet Amelia. This sweet girl was surrendered to a rural county shelter along with two other pregnant dogs from the same home. Stories like this break our hearts—three expectant moms under one roof, likely the result of unaltered male and female dogs living together. When the shelter reached out for help, Worthy Dog Rescue stepped in. We took in Amelia, and one of our partner rescues welcomed her puppies, ensuring this little family gets the bright future they deserve. Thankfully, Amelia was able to deliver her puppies in the safety and comfort of a foster home, where she proved to be an attentive, loving mom. It was immediately clear that she adores people—she’s affectionate, cuddly, and always eager for human companionship. She also has excellent doggy social skills, getting along with every pup she meets. Currently, she’s in a foster home with a larger dog and three cats. Her foster mom describes her as a very friendly pup who adjusts well to new situations—"A couple of sniffs, and she’s good to go!" She enjoys playdates with a neighbor’s dog and loves romping around with her foster sibling. Amelia is still a young pup, with all the energy and enthusiasm of adolescence. She’s always up for an adventure—whether it’s a walk (which she loves!), a road trip, backyard zoomies, or a car ride. She’s social, confident, and the perfect sidekick for an active household. But when the day winds down, she’s also a champion cuddler, happiest curled up on the couch with her favorite human. She sleeps soundly through the night, nestled in a cozy ball on her foster parent’s bed. House manners? Amelia has them! She’s fully house-trained and has never had an accident in her foster home. She tolerates the crate for treats (even if it’s not her favorite), and her leash skills are decent—she may pull a little when excited to meet a new dog, but only out of friendly enthusiasm. Her foster parents crate her when they leave her home alone to avoid her getting into mischief. Her foster mom describes her as medium energy—she’s playful and active but also respectful of the older dog in the home, knowing when to settle down and entertain herself with a toy or nap.  We think that Amelia would thrive in an active home with another playful pup and maybe some kids to romp around with. She’s a fantastic family dog just waiting for the perfect match. Apply today! Story
Meet Morgan! This sweet girl is a Hurricane Helena survivor whose life was turned upside down when her family lost their home. Living in a camper with two toddlers and other pets, they made the difficult decision to surrender Morgan so she could have a better chance at the life she deserves.  Morgan is a friendly, social pup who’s great with kids, cats, and other dogs. She’s loving, adaptable, and ready to start her next chapter with a forever family. Since arriving in her Carolina foster home just over a week ago, Morgan has adjusted beautifully. She’s living as an only dog and has shown she’s house-trained, quiet, and respectful of boundaries and belongings. She only hops on the couch when invited and is quickly picking up new routines. Like many young dogs, she can get a little excited and jump up to greet you, but she’s eager to learn and improving each day. Morgan’s foster mom describes her as an affectionate pup who loves giving kisses and always has a wagging tail for you. She has a moderate energy level, enjoys spending time outside, and is working on her leash manners. Morgan loves chasing balls and can entertain herself indoors with toys. She already knows commands like “sit” and “wait,” and while she can be a little mouthy at times, she responds well to gentle correction. Crate training is still a work in progress. While she sleeps soundly in her crate at night, she initially protested when crated during the day. However, she’s improving with each experience and learning to settle more quickly. In her previous home, Morgan lived with dogs, cats, and kids, and her confident, happy personality shines through. We think she’d thrive in a family with other pups or children to play with. If you’re looking for a sweet, social companion, Morgan might just be your girl. Apply today! Story
Roxy is a funny little dog who is a lot of fun to have around. She is low maintenance, she loves going for long walks, and is always up for them (rain or shine). She loves walking around a fenced yard and really entertains herself just by exploring. She is super athletic she jumps on top of a 4 foot gate & walks on the top of it (on a skinny little metal pole) , so a fenced yard has to be pretty tall for her. It looks like she is a gymnast on a very skinny balance beam! She might be a great agility dog but unlike many dogs like that, she is not demanding. We joke because of her tough looks that she the is really a guardian angel disguised as small four-legged bouncer. She does not chew on things she shouldn't and goes outside of her run so we believe she is likely housetrained. If you are interested in Roxy please let us know. Thank you for your interest in Roxy! Story
Genny (now called Sedona) is a sweet, timid girl. She appears potty-trained, with a few accidents but think that's acclimating and a result of her getting spayed recently. She has gets along well with her foster family's dog and their teen kids. This little girl just needs some time to get used to her surroundings and could use some leash training. She is crate-trained and loves her food and treats. Once she settles, she will cuddle her way into your heart. Thank you for your interest in Genny! Please contact Adam Fishbein (adam.fishbein@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet small boy ISO fresh start and love! KALEIDOSCOPE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Kaleidoscope     Best Guess for Breed:  Dachshund and beagle mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of April 2025      Gender:  Male Approximate Weight:   26 lbs Gets Along With:  Other dogs!  We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living At: Lucky Dog's South Carolina rescue campus; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to come up after completing heartworm treatment.  Special Adoption Considerations: Kaleidoscope is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Kaleidoscope is Looking For:His forever home! This sweetie is eagerly looking forward to having his own humans for sniffy walks (his nose IS awfully close to the ground to start with!) and all the adventures they can dream up. And dog school so he can show how super smart he is. And then pets and cuddles and belly scritches at the end of a fun day together. And he'll want quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. Most of all, though, he wants to know he's safe and loved. In exchange he promises all the adoring gazes and happy tail wags he's storing up, and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Is Kaleidoscope the one you see by your side? Was it a squirrel? A tumbleweed? No, friends—it was Foxy, the dachshund mix with the heart of a lion and the legs of a potato. Don’t let the low clearance fool you—this girl can move. She’s crate trained, mostly potty trained, and food motivated (meaning: will do anything for snacks). She doesn’t really understand toys yet, but she’s trying her best and we believe in her. One small step for dog, one wobbly-legged leap for dachshund-kind.     She’s currently perfecting the art of leash walking, stair climbing, and professional-level cuddling. She has a best friend named Roger, with whom she plots zoomie missions and snack heists. She’s also got some solid opinions—if something looks weird or suspicious, she’ll tell you, loudly, but only for a moment. Then it’s back to being adorable.     If you’re looking for a lovable, low-riding comedian who will keep you on your toes (or at least your couch), Foxy might just be your soulmate. Fill out an application today and adopt Foxy before she outruns us all!  Foxy would do best in a home with a fenced yard and a larger dog to play with.Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.    Adoption fees cover basic vetting, rabies (if puppy is old enough), distemper/parvo vaccinations, deworming, monthly heartworm prevention while in our care (if old enough), monthly flea/tick prevention while in our care, and transport costs. Story
Max is a little guy with a big personality!  He is fuzzy and adorable and playful - in a short little package.  At only 18 pounds Max can go anywhere and fit in any type of home.   His foster says Max is great with kids, sweet and handsome, and a joy to have in the house.  Still a puppy at 8 months, Max has learned a lot in a short time.  He is housebroken, working on crate training, easy on the leash, and good in the car.  He is learning basic commands like "sit" and "stay". Story
Adley Adley is a sweet, playful snuggly puppy. She enjoys squeaky toys and wrestling with her siblings. She, also, enjoys a good snuggle. She is a smart puppy ready to begin puppy training. Her mom is 18-20 pounds and we believe Adley may be a little smaller than that. Cade is a sweet, friendly puppy. He enjoys balls, squeaky toys and playing tug-of-war with his siblings. After play he happily crawls into a lap to snuggle. His funny antics will keep you smiling. He is a smart puppy ready to begin puppy training. His mom is 18-20 pounds and we believe Cade will be larger than that. Cade came with his mom , Cali, and siblings, Camden, Adley, Gunnar, and Jordan from North Carolina and have been together in their foster home. Cade will be 8 weeks old on May 11th. PLEASE NOTE- AN APPLICATION FROM THE WEBSITE ALMOSTHOMEDOGS.ORG IS REQUIRED prior to any meet and greet. Calling, emailing and using the “contact us” link is not useful and will delay your consideration in the adoption of the dog. Petfinder inquires are not sent to us. The adoption fee is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including age appropriate vaccinations, worming, flea/tick preventative and spay/neuter. Adopters who choose to adopt a puppy that has not yet been spayed/neutered are subject to an additional deposit of $100 (refundable upon proof of spay/neuter prior to the contracted date.) Included in the adoption fee, the rescue will arrange spay/neuter by a partner vet at a predetermined appointment when the puppy is between 7-9 months of age. It is the responsibility of the adopter to bring the adopted puppy back to the rescue vet for spaying/neutering or, if they choose, to send verification from their own vet (at the adopter's own cost) that the puppy had been spayed/neutered. Story
Lilly’s beautiful brown eyes will melt your heart! She is the sweetest little dog and incredibly loyal right from the start. She loves her people, is great with kids. But her absolute favorite things to do are to get belly rubs and give kisses! If you love doggy kisses, she’s your girl! In her foster home, Lilly has access to a doggy door which she took to right away. She loves to go on walks and strut her stuff around the neighborhood. Mostly housebroken if taken out with regular frequency. Lilly seems to be fine with calmer dogs her size-some larger active dogs may scare her. She likely would be completely fine in a home with other pets or as an only companion-she is happy hanging with her people. Lilly would be a special addition to a wide range of homes and would adapt easily to almost any environment, as long as you love her as much as she will love you. Story
This boy is named Bratwurst. A one-year-old Dachshund mix in a short black and tan coat, he's only about 15 pounds. Because of his size, if you have small children in the home, please make sure that they are experienced with dogs this size. Bratwurst has a great personality; he not only gets along with other dogs, but he likes cats, too! He would be a fine little dog to have around! (posted 6/6/25, ME) Adoption Fee: $395.00-- covers microchip, worming, all vaccines, monthly heart worm preventative, monthly tick/flea preventative, spaying/neutering, health certificate, and complete medical records. Transport Fee: $160.00-- We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip. We make every effort to arrive with healthy and minimally stressed dogs. **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. **June 7, 2025, 7:55 pm

Story
Meet Andouille, a 7-month-old Dachshund mix with a with a wonderful personality. He presently weighs 11 pounds; and will mature to only around15 pounds. (Because of his small size, he should not be in a house with small children unless they are experienced with handling small dogs.) This is a boy who is good with cats as well as other dogs. He's very playful and outgoing, but when naptime comes, he's ready to plop down into puppy dreams! What a delight he is!
