Story
River was found as a stray in WV. He was very scared in the shelter and really needed a rescue to step in and help. HART did and he is now in a foster home learning life isn't so scary. River is a very sweet and submissive dog who will need a patient person, or people, with experience with scared dogs. We will also consider people with dog experience and the willingness to work with a scared dog. In his foster home he is very attached to his primary person and is still nervous around other people and new environments. He does best with a lot of structure (leash, crate, schedule and supervision) and the help of a confident dog in the home to lead the way. He will require time to adjust but the effort you put in will definitely come back tenfold in love. He is not aggressive with little ones, but with his current temperament and being scared they may be too much for him. He would do best in a calm, adult only home with a yard and another dog. River is crate trained (you must have treats though) and house trained although sometimes has accidents if left unattended. He is great with his foster brothers but is generally anxious (some dogs don't like this behavior). River is not currently attending adoption events as they are very overwhelming. If interested in meeting him, please fill out an application online. If it's a good fit we may set up a meet and greet at a quiet place. River may require multiple meet-ups so he can feel more comfortable with his potential adopters. Thank you for your interest in River Dog! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=14915 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet River Dog, or to submit an online application. HART adopts to the local DC/VA/MD metro area only. Visit our website for more information about our adoption process.

Story
We adopted Bentley a year ago. He is currently 1 year and 6 months old. We got him from an animal rescue. He if full of energy, loves walks, runs and going on vacation. He is very smart but not very confident dog so he is a bit shy around new people. He loves to play with other dogs but needs to be in a house where he is the only dog. He needs lots of activity. He knows alot of commands (stay, sit, down, leave it, heal, come, place), is e collar trained, loves his crate and structure. He loves to cuddle under blankets.

Story
Allison (Ally)’s mother was found pregnant and abandoned by VBSPCA. Mother delivered many puppies and I adopted beautiful Ally at only 6 weeks. Ally has been wonderful. She learned potty training almost immediately. She is very well house trained now and act calmly in the house. She is obedient and loves to please her human. She is a happy dog. I feel forced to rehoming her with a heartbreak because I’m pregnant and they diagnosed me with a condition. I’m having a very hard time bringing her out. She loves the dog park and I’m unable to go. I’m also unable to bring her on walks because she is a very strong dog and would pull at times and with a huge belly I cannot do that. I think she deserves to go with a family who can give her that opportunity to run and download the energy she has. If left at home she would sleep peacefully and wait for her moment to go out. She is good with other dogs and big kids. She jumps at people out of excitement and she has never growled in her whole life.
