Boykin Spaniel fun facts

Fun Facts:

"Whit" Boykin developed the breed by crossing the original dog "Dumpy" with Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, Springer Spaniels, Cocker Spaniels, and American Water Spaniels.

In 1985, the Boykin Spaniel became the official state dog of South Carolina. Through most of the 20th century, the Boykin Spaniel was completely unknown outside of South Carolina.

Smaller than other spaniels, the Boykin Spaniel was beloved for use in waterfowl and other bird hunting because their small size and behavior earned them the nickname, "the dog that doesn't rock the boat."
