Adopting a Skye Terrier

Frequently asked questions about acquiring an Skye Terrier - the pros and cons of adopting versus going through a breeder, and associated costs.

You can adopt a Skye Terrier at a much lower cost than buying one from a breeder. The cost of adopting a Skye Terrier is around $300 in order to cover the expenses of caring for the dog before adoption. In contrast, buying Skye Terriers from breeders can be prohibitively expensive. Depending on their breeding, they usually cost anywhere from $1,000 to $2,000.

The easiest way to adopt a Skye Terrier would be through a rescue that specializes in Skye Terriers. A great place to start would be to start a breed search on Adopt a Pet. The search will show you all the available Skye Terriers in your area.

Skye Terrier fun facts

Fun Facts:

The Skye Terrier is currently one of the most endangered breeds in the United Kingdom.

The Skye Terrier has had many monikers through the generations: formerly the Fancy Skye Terrier, the Clydesdale Terrier, the Silky Skye Terrier, the Glasgow Terrier, and the Paisley Terrier.

The Skye Terrier's ear is perhaps their most telling feature. Sometimes drop-eared, they are known for their large batwing ears that stand at attention, cascading over with hair into a peekaboo hairdo from which their eyes can barely be seen.
