Meet Bailey! This sweet little Shih Tzu was found wandering the streets of Huntersville, North Carolina. The kind family who took her in did everything they could to find her owners, contacting local shelters and posting across social media, but when no one came forward, they reached out to Worthy Dog for help. Soon after arriving, Bailey visited our vet and surprised us all when we learned she was expecting! Less than two weeks later, she gave birth to two healthy puppies. Bailey proved to be a wonderful mama: attentive, gentle, and never far from her babies’ sides. Now that her puppies are weaned and she’s been spayed, Bailey is ready to start the next chapter of her life. Bailey is currently being fostered by Tammy and Izzy, along with their two dogs and cats. She gets along well with her doggie pals, loves playtime, and takes her home security duties very seriously. She’s curious about the cats but respectful when corrected, so we’d consider her cat-friendly. Tammy describes her as perfect - affectionate, well-mannered, and full of personality. Bailey has an appropriate, medium energy level for a young dog. She loves running and playing in the yard, but settles down nicely indoors. If the other dogs get rowdy, she’s happy to join in but can easily be redirected when it’s time to calm down. She’s not currently getting daily walks, but she’s comfortable on a leash and would love to explore her neighborhood with her forever family. Bailey is a confident, happy pup who adores snuggling and being close to her people. She’ll let you know when she’s ready for love; hugs, pets, and cuddles are very much her thing. Once she’s gotten her fill, she’s content to entertain herself with a stuffed toy, chew on a bone, or shred a piece of cardboard (a favorite pastime!). Toys are a must for Bailey; she especially loves tossing her stuffies in the air and trying to catch them. Tammy shared, “Bailey is a joy to have in our home. She voluntarily goes to her crate for quiet time and happily follows the other dogs outside for potty breaks. She does bark at delivery trucks and new visitors at first, but warms up with a little time. It’s going to be a sad day when she leaves. She’s already had her first vet visit and is thriving in her foster home, where she lives with two loving foster moms and several adult dogs to help guide and socialize her. Bernadette was brought to a shelter by Animal Control after being found as a stray in heartbreaking condition. She's settled into her foster home beautifully, and is really starting to open up and let her personality shine as she gets more and more comfortable. Bernadette loves humans and is happiest just hanging out with her foster family, snuggling, being loved, and folding herself into whatever is going on. She also loves soft treats, naps, and giving herself a backscratch by rolling around on the carpet. She is curious and always eager to explore - she'll slide right through her gate the moment her foster mom opens it and just keep right on going! Bernadette has some health issues caused by a lifetime of neglect but has been so friendly and easy to handle as we've started to address them. She has some trouble seeing and needs to be carried down stairs, and she's working on her housebreaking and making great progress. Sweet Charlie is a special furbaby who is shy. Charlie loves people. He will carefully approach his human, give them a kiss on the hand, and welcome a pet on his head. But he prefers to be the one to initiate the contact. If approached or picked up when he’s not expecting it, he may hurry away. Charlie is also playful and really enjoys burying toys under a blanket or pillow. He can entertain himself for quite a while with this activity! Another behavior that can be managed by a patient adopter is Charlie’s habit of getting into cabinets or trash cans or onto tables/countertops in search of food. Charlie LOVES to eat and is super smart when it comes to finding food so keeping food stored out of his reach or blocking access to the kitchen with dog/baby gates helps reduce that behavior. Charlie is housetrained and used to taking regular outside breaks in a fenced backyard. Having access to a fenced yard is important for Charlie because he can be nervous on walks and easily spooked by sounds like a car engine. For this reason, CHR is requiring that his adopter have a secure fenced yard. If there are other dogs in the home, you’ll be happy to know that Charlie gets along with most dogs but he will bark at any dog who tries to climb into bed next to him when he is resting. Charlie has made amazing progress while he’s been with his foster mom and is learning to be more relaxed, but we know from experience that it will take more time to address his fearfulness. So, I adopted Manny about five years ago in February of 2020. I was told that he was MAYBE three years old but to me, he looked a little younger. I believed he was one or two years old. That would make him between 6 and 8 years old now although he still looks like a puppy sometimes lol. Manny is such a sweet and mild tempered dog. However, he can get a bit anxious at times. Especially, when he hears the loud noise of a trash truck and dumpster OR rain and thunder. He loves attention, cuddles and caresses from humans. I am sad to let him go but I have to because he deserves more than I can give him now. He likes to go for walks but I have not been able to get him outside much. Im hoping he is adopted to a home where a dog of his kind is desired and the owner has the time to care for him and retrain him to their home in a loving way. I will include his crate, remaining food and treats and whatever supplies, clothes and toys I have for him.

Zara is perhaps the cutest and sweetest dog you will ever meet. At 8 years old and 11 lbs, she is proof positive that good things come in small packages. Zara has lived with other dogs of various sizes. She would love to have a dog her size to play with, however as long as her person(s) plays with her that would be okay too. She is generally a quiet dog, unless other household dogs start barking, then she will chime in. Zara is blind, but she doesn’t let that stop her. Her future family will need to gate any stairs and be willing to carry her up and down for her safety.
